Welcome to our off-grid haven that is a breathing space for the soul!

Nestled on the edge of the indigenous Podocarpus Mistbelt Forest in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands of South Africa, our luxuriously cosy pod offers visitors a peaceful haven to retreat to. Enveloped in the sounds of a gurgling stream and a cacophony of birdsong, this pod is a masterpiece by Willis Designer Projects, built from timber, steel, and glass. Upcycled cardboard insulation and a generous fireplace keep it cosy during the colder winter evenings, while the sun streams in from all angles during the daytime. This little private sanctuary with its ample glass windows allows you to admire the surrounding forest whether you’re lazing on the luxurious king-size bed, sitting on the spacious balcony, or soaking in the slipper bath. Enjoy sitting around the boma fire at night where you can braai your dinner while breathing in the clean forest atmosphere. Fitted with a self-catering kitchenette, you have the option of preparing your own food, pre-ordering nourishing meals from The Cookhouse, or dining out. The pod is supplied with tea, coffee, and farm milk from our neighbours. Our entire farm is completely off-grid – lights are solar-powered while the geyser and stove are on gas, and we have pristine spring water originating from our forest which is delightfully refreshing to drink.

We have a few stunning strolls if you are up for paths that are on the wilder side, and our serene forest pool is available for lazing on the deck or taking a refreshing plunge if you’re a cold-water enthusiast! Apart from our horses and dogs, Forryhill farm supports a host of wild animals such as bush buck, reed buck, duiker, bush pig, mongoose, cervil, caracal, and even the rare cape leopard. The bird life in this area is remarkable, as is known by many birders, with common sightings of the Knysna Loeri, Nerina Trogon, Crowned Cranes, Cape Parrots and many impressive birds of prey – to name but a few. Expect to be wow’ed by Nature – the forces are strong here, with clear sunny days and icy nights in winter, and occasional explosive thunder storms and hail in summer. Come prepared for the elements, meaning, pack your gum boots and rain coat if you’re coming in the wet summer months and your warmest woollens in winter!

Guided walks in the neighbouring Dargle Nature Reserve can be arranged.

The forest pod is equipped with

  • gas stove and oven
  • bar fridge with freezer
  • cooking & eating utensils
  • a coffee/tea plunger
  • eco hand- & body wash
  • indoor & outdoor fireplace
  • free supply of wood

The pod is not routinely serviced for the duration of your stay, however cleaning can be arranged at a surcharge of R200. The pod does not have wifi as we believe that a digital detox will greatly enhance your retreat as you unplug from the digital world and instead ease into an appreciation of your surrounds. Wifi is available at my work studio at certain times, should you absolutely need it.

We are situated 20km outside of Howick and 28km from the famous Nkhlosane peak, with plenty of beautiful hikes, charming eateries and farm-type activities around the area.
